- 2 pounds frozen hash browns
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 can cream of chicken soup (or cream of mushroom for a vegetarian version)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- 1 medium onion, diced (or green onions for a milder flavor)
- 1 cup crispy fried onions (for topping)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter (or olive oil)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the frozen hash browns, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, shredded cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges start to bubble.
- While baking, heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until golden brown.
- Remove the baking dish from the oven and sprinkle the crispy fried onions and sautéed onions over the top.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the topping is golden and crispy.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
For extra creaminess, add cream cheese or Greek yogurt. Feel free to experiment with different cheeses.
