- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or vegetable stock (or broth + splash of apple cider vinegar)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the ground beef (or turkey) and cook until browned.
- Pour in the beef stock (or broth + vinegar) and let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Mix in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste.
- Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper to taste.
- Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If short on time, just 15 minutes will work.
- Serve it over your favorite pasta and enjoy family time.
Notes
This sauce makes a great filling for lasagna or stuffed peppers. You can serve it over various types of pasta, or even zucchini noodles for a healthier option.
