- 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (low-fat recommended)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- 1 onion, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: mixed vegetables (like peas and carrots)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and onion over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Grease a casserole dish. Layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
- Spread half of the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
- Pour half of the cream of mushroom soup on top of the beef, then sprinkle half of the cheese over that.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, beef mixture, soup, and cheese.
- Cover the casserole dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly, and the potatoes are tender.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
Feel free to add spices like garlic powder or smoked paprika for extra flavor. Adapt the recipe with different proteins or vegetables as needed.
