A comforting and filling baked pasta dish that is perfect for families and potlucks.
Ingredients

- 1 lb rigatoni pasta
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup pecorino cheese, grated
- Olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the rigatoni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until translucent.
- Add in the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
- In a large baking dish, start layering: half of the cooked rigatoni, half of the meat sauce, half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers.
- Sprinkle the pecorino cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Feel free to add sautéed vegetables for extra nutrition and substitute pecorino cheese with Parmesan if needed.
