Ingredients

- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add the sugar, water, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil. Keep stirring until it reaches a hard crack stage, about 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove the pan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture onto a greased baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top while the toffee is still hot. Allow them to melt for a few minutes.
- Once melted, use a spatula to spread the chocolate evenly over the toffee.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts on top, if using, and let it cool completely.
- Once cool, break the toffee into pieces and enjoy!
Notes
Use a candy thermometer for accurate results. You can experiment with different types of nuts or chocolate.
