Description

A festive blend of rich cheesecake and fluffy red velvet cake, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the cheesecake layer:
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the red velvet layers:
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil (or melted coconut oil)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or plain yogurt mixed with a splash of milk)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1–2 tbsp red food coloring (or natural food coloring)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar (or lemon juice)
  • For the cream cheese frosting:
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F. Mix the cheesecake ingredients until smooth. Pour into a greased springform pan and bake for 40–45 minutes. Allow it to cool and then chill in the refrigerator.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Divide the batter between two round cake pans and bake for about 25–30 minutes. Let cool completely.
  3. In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until smooth and creamy to make the frosting.
  4. On a serving plate, layer a red velvet cake layer, then the chilled cheesecake, followed by another red velvet layer. Spread the frosting all over the top and sides.
  5. Cover the cake and chill for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving.

Notes

For natural coloring, consider using beet juice instead of food coloring. The cheesecake layer can be made a day in advance.
